Will's Camp Experience
This past summer I had the opportunity to help at the camp for two weeks. When I first signed up I had some concerns that they would have a little trouble finding roles were I could be helpful, because of some physical limitations that I have. When I had the interview with Mr. Kane, it really helped to ease a lot of the concerns I had and realize that they had lots of experience and I'd be in good hands. This positive interaction was one of many I had with the staff and volunteers. Everyone was so friendly and I had opportunity to work with and meet a bunch of new people.
I specifically was involved in the canoeing specialized activity. This was not something I had much experience in, but Johnnie and Aubrey were great instructors and very patient as I started to catch on a bit. One of the other highlights for me was the opportunity to be involved with the worship. This was great to be able to worship with new friends.
While I was there, there were times I fell into comparing myself with others, and felt like maybe, in comparison, I didn't have much to give. At one point somebody shared about godly motivation, and that what you do should be done for God. This helped remind me that my worth and satisfaction can only be found in Christ and that God's power is made perfect in weakness. This reminder has been something I have been able to look to over the time I've been home since then. I look forward to the next opportunity I have to return to the camp!
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
