Camper & Volunteer Story - Emma
Emma's Camp Experience
Although I grew up at Camp of the Woods and was a camper for many years, being on staff has really impacted my life. I didn’t fully understand what a special place Camp was because it has always just been home to me. The first year I staffed I was expecting the summer to go exactly the same as previous summers, but it was totally different and changed my relationship with Christ. I experienced Christ and his presence in a way I never had before and grew in my relationship with Him. I learned how faithful he is and saw him working in the lives of the campers and staff around me which was amazing. I was able to share the gospel for the first time which was scary but the more I did it the more I learned to trust that the Lord was in control. It is such a joy to see how God can work in so many hearts throughout the summer. One of my favourite parts of being on staff is the morning devos. It's a great way to start the day and I was challenged and encouraged in a way that I hadn’t been before.
Having grown up at camp I have done many different tasks over the years. One of my favourite things about those tasks is that whether you are washing dishes, stacking wood, leading games or cabin leading you are surrounded by people who want to serve the Lord. This makes even the hardest task so much more fun. Another one of my favourite things about camp is how you are able to make lasting connections with campers and staff. We have had some amazing staff throughout the years and it's always cool to see who God brings each summer. Being on staff has definitely shaped my relationship with Christ and have been some of the best summers of my life.
