Volunteer Story - Scott
Scott's Camp Experience
I had first heard about Camp of The Woods in 2022 through my church’s youth group. Our Pastor PJ had been connected with camp for a number of years , and asked if we would be interested in going for one of the mission weeks the following summer. After taking it up with our church we secured funding and a vehicle to get to camp.

That week at camp was big for my journey with Christ. Getting to see the Lord working through people whether it was the camp staff or other mission campers was what I needed to take the next step in my faith. It left me and others from my group with a longing to go back to camp so we tried to make plans to staff the following summer. But our schedules didn’t allow us to go for a few weeks or even for a week other than the youth group trip.
When our youth group got to camp for mission 3 in 2024, it was just as good as the previous summer. We had more opportunities to connect with the summer staff and some of the permanent staff as well. Meeting some of the staff and getting to hang out with some of them gave us a little more insight on how things worked at camp. After talking to people at camp God continued to put staffing on my mind.
After months of going back and forth if I wanted to go, I sent in my application to staff for 10 weeks. When I heard that camp would have me I was ecstatic. I quickly found someone that could drive me to camp, and we were on our way a few months later.
Arriving at camp I was greeted with open arms from everybody. As I settled in I got to learn more about how camp worked and started learning the different jobs at camp. When camper weeks started it was a bit of a shock to me, because of how different it was to the mission and training weeks. However, different camper weeks were great to get to know the campers and share the gospel with them.

One of the best parts of staffing was getting to make friends with the other staffers. Meeting other Americans and Canadian staffers will have a life long impact on me. Some of these people have helped improve my prayer life and helped me to get back on track with the Lord in certain areas. Thank you, Camp of The Woods!
